Adil Bari is an aspiring civil engineering post graduate student who is studying at TU Dresden while also working an internship as a structural engineer with Max Bögl, one of Germany's largest contractors. He decided to take his interest in BIM and his love for civil engineering to start a pilot research project that would also result in the production of his final master's thesis. The goal is to discuss how Building Information Modeling (BIM) based data collection and data mining techniques in the construction industry can predict progress status of a construction project. He took his research further by studying the use of data visualization.
“I chose this topic because I love to do innovative things such as creating BIM Apps, and blogging about software and new technology,” says Adil Bari.
Adil graduated from NED University of Engineering & Technology in Pakistan with a B.E. in Civil Engineering, focusing on Structural Engineering & BIM. Upon graduation Adil began an internship as a structural engineer with Mushtaq & Bilal, where he decided his true passion for civil engineering centered on structural analysis. This is when he decided to continue his studies in Germany at TU Dresden, by enrolling in the Master’s program, Advanced Computational Civil Engineering and Structural Studies (known as ACCESS). ACCESS seeks to facilitate the development of a strong knowledge base in the field of computational mechanics and structural analysis, working collaboratively with advanced civil engineering design.
It was during this course his interest grew further and he began to see the limitless opportunities BIM has to offer the industry. As his studies progressed, Adil began working as an intern for Max Bögl where he was introduced to Tekla Structures and saw how using it could transform the structural engineering and construction workflows. He created a free account on Tekla Campus and began learning more about Tekla’s constructable models.
Max Bögl also allowed Adil to put some of his research and studies to work. By the end of his research, three sample projects had been presented to the department head.
If you want to push the limits of BIM like Adil, start by joining Tekla Campus, an online academy to learn the basics of Tekla Structures.
Then look into internships. Many of the top engineering firms have graduate and internship opportunities, which is how many engineers got their start.
